- One of the oldest Nordic events in Alberta
- Both classic and skate technique options
- Accessible from Calgary (90-minute drive)

## Climate

Rocky Mountain foothills winter

Kananaskis Country sits in the transition zone between the prairies and the Rocky Mountains. Chinook winds can bring sudden temperature swings of 20°C or more. When cold air holds, conditions are excellent — dry, cold, fast snow. Temperatures range from -25°C to 5°C depending on Chinook activity.

Typical race-day temperature: -15 to 0°C

Challenges:
- Chinook winds can rapidly warm and deteriorate snow conditions
- Extreme temperature variability — can swing 20°C in hours
- Wind exposure in open foothill sections
- Altitude at 1,500m adds a fitness challenge for prairie-based skiers
- Freeze-thaw cycles from Chinooks can create icy, crust-covered tracks
